Mumbai: It was idol worship of a different kind, here the diva
became the worshipper.
Singer Asha Bhonsle paid a visit to Mumbai's Siddhivinayak Temple to pay
her respects to Lord Ganesha and also to release her album
Mangalmurti Ganesh.
Unlike her contemporaries the singer has always moved with the times and
this time too she has attempted something different.
Asha has sung famous Marathi bhajans in Hindi for non-Marathi speaking
Ganesh devotees, maybe that explains the Ganesh Chalisa sung in
contemporary rap style.
"The only way to teach the youth is to speak in their language. You
cannot teach them in our language. I danced to the tune of Om Namah
Shivay to teach my grandchildren its rhythm," Asha said.
After having reigned over the Indian music scene for close to six
decades now, the versatile singer doesn't really have too many prayers
unfulfilled.
"There are crores of women but God chose me and gave me so much fame
that everybody remembers me and loves me," Asha said.
